More live blogging: Emmy Awards

I don't watch Amazing Race but congratulations to them on beating out
American Idol, Dancing With the Stars, Survivor (can't believe it is still on) and Project Runway on Reality Show Emmy. I would have picked Project Runway or American Idol but I don't make this call.

By the way,
Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are hilarious. The funniest line of the night comes from Colbert, "Hello godless sodomites." Good stuff.

Live blog: From the Emmy Awards

It is time for the Dick Clark tribute. He really is an amazing guy. It is kind of crazy to see how much stuff he has been involved with. He is really an amazing entertainment legend. This is the first time I've seem him make a public appearance since his stroke.

I can't believe that Simon Cowell couldn't even afford a tie for tonight. Let's start a collection for him. Maybe he needs Ryan Seacrest to take him shopping. Send
Ryan an e-mail to buy his friend a tie.

Barry Manilow has had a lot of plastic surgery but he is still fun to watch. His musical tribute was really great.

UPDATED: Apparently, Barry Manilow is having hip surgery as reported in this USA Today story.

Live blog: From the Emmy Awards

Well not exactly from the actual
Emmy Awards but from my house. Here are some initial thoughts. Developing...

Conan O'Brien: Not so much. His musical number got a chuckle out of me. It seems like nobody is laughing.

Bob Newhart: Now Bob Newhart in a tube with three hours to live. That is funny!

Leslie Jordan: Funny! I love him. He is so funny. He reminds me of a Keebler Elf.

Dramatic television

I've been catching up on television that I missed over the past few weeks. All of a sudden my favorite shows got really dramatic.

The
Real World Key West finale was super dramatic. The roomies left the house one-at-a-time. Each departure was followed sad shots of everyone crying and sitting on the steps with their luggage waiting for the next taxi. I mean really, couldn't they send a van and have everyone leave at once? The focus of the finale was on Paula who apparently has come a long way. If you didn't realize that, this episode really made that clear. The last straw for me was when Jose lost it saying goodbye to Paula.

Rescue Me's second to last episode before the season finale was also quite dramatic. Johnny is killed. The chief has a heart attack while getting it on with the Jamaican nurse. The Probie is transferring to another station. What the hell? This episode was more shocking that dramatic but still.

I've also been watching
Psych but am way behind on that one. I hope it doesn't have any dramatic moments. I don't know what I'm going to do when the fall lineup kicks off. I will surely still be depressed from the Real World finale.

Baseball update: Rangers outplayed by Angels

The Angels and the Rangers dueled it out tonight at Ameriquest. In the eighth, the Angels put up a three run rally putting them ahead of the Rangers, 9-7. This one was important because both teams were 5.5 games behind Oakland going into tonight's game. A win would help either team keep improving their standing in the AL West. It really doesn't matter though because there are still quite a few games that could move either of these teams up.

The Yankees also have a slim lead in the AL East ahead of the Red Sox. I hope they take the division but all of it is still up in the air. My dream World Series this year would be the Yankees and the Mets but not sure if that will happen. Either way, you heard it hear first (unless someone else already put it out there).

The Rangers and Angels slug it out tomorrow night also. I hope it goes better for us. I have to get to another baseball game soon.

We are 'en fuego'

It is still hot. Here's hoping for some cooler weather or a snow storm. My odds are better to win the lottery though. Check out the current weather at my casa.

Chillin' at the casa

You may have guessed I was traveling this week (if you read my last post). I went home to visit my family in South Texas and then I visited a friend in Corpus Christi. It was actually a great little trip.

I really love spending time with my family. I don't get to see them as often as I used to and I hardly get to spend long periods of time with them when I do visit. It was really relaxing and fulfilling. My time in Corpus Christi was fun too. I'm impressed that CC has some randomly fun bars and clubs. The highlight of the trip though was probably our last day at the beach. Those who know me well already know that the beach and I are not best friends. I don't really like to hang out at the beach. I don't really look forward to going there but Sunday morning was really great. There weren't tons of people there and it was really relaxing. The ocean was beautiful regardless of its scary brown color. We left suddenly though when it got unbearably hot.

Well, my trip ended last night and today I spent most of the day getting ready for work and school. My little vacation has helped me recharge and get ready for the busy few weeks ahead. I love time off. You should get you some!

Live blog: Stuck at the airport

Houston Hobby to be exact. So the last time I flew Southwest Airlines in June, I had drama. On my otherwise regular flight to Harlingen tonight, I was surprised during our stop in Houston that we had to get off the plane and wait for an incoming flight from Las Vegas that had 17 passengers that were going to be on our flight. Appartently Mother Nature has caused havoc on inbound and outbound flights today. Thanks alot.

A few questions come to mind while I sit here...
Why would they not wait for me last time I missed my connection in Kansas City?
Why did I get stuck in the crappy part of Houston Hobby where they only have one restaurant?
Is there nothing better on television than ABC's Medical Mysteries? That show sucks.
Is this delay a sign of how my weekend will be?
Can I get some water please?
Why haven't they demolished this crappy part of Houston Hobby?

What's that sound?

It's that time of the month again -- time to share what's currently in my CD player. I'm still focused on jazz and big band standards. Michael Buble's It's Time is one of my favorites and one that I could listen to everyday.

Buble's voice is great. It is soulful and dreamy (as jazz standards should be). He remakes some classics and has some original songs of his own, and excels at belting out both. I really like Home which makes me think of growing up and the funny things that happened in my childhood. I love all the other tracks too (except for his duet with Nelly Furtado but that is more about my dislike for her than their performance).

Find it, download it, steal it, whatever just get a copy. It is worth it. By the way it isn't a new release. It was released in 2005 but definitely has great shelf life.

On another note, I don't like the title "What's that sound?" Any suggestions on what to rename this regular feature. I need to get you guys involved somehow.

Manscaping

I'm not sure if you've seen this website by Norelco but it is hilarious. Listen to the testimonials - they will crack you up. I love these random funny sites. If you have any favorites, please share them with me.

Lazy days of summer

Today was one of those lazy days. It was so hot outside. There was nothing really exciting going on and I was really tired. I could be here or maybe here or perhaps gambling the night away here. Instead I'm at home. Doing nothing. There's always tomorrow, I guess.
