Canary Cafe has great pork

I forgot to mention this last week. Some friends and I went to the Canary Cafe in Addison for dinner. We didn't have reservations but they were great and fit us in. I had been there before but I forgot how great it was. The place mostly has Mediterranean dishes. We had a delicious garlic and feta appetizer and great wine to start.

The best part of the meal was the pork chop. It came with a side of pasta and grilled vegetables. The chop was unbelievably tender and juicy. The dish is amazing, simple, and uncomplicated.

If you get a chance. check it out.

I heart Kelly Clarkson

On Friday, I unexpectedly came across some Kelly Clarkson tickets (thanks Clayton). Her concert was at Smirnoff in Fair Park. I got past the fact that it was going to be like 99 degrees and figured it would be mucho fun. We had a nice dinner at Rockfish(love the fish tacos) then it was off to Smirnoff. The traffic was not that bad. The parking was $15, which I thought was outrageous. They even put a sticker (that left crap on my windshield) as proof that I paid.

The parking lot was only a sign of what was to come -- 12-year old girls with their moms, gay guys, lesbians, and hetero couples from Plano and Frisco. It was a randomly funny mix of people. With my Heineken in tow, we headed to our seats and got ready for a great show. The opening act was not that exciting.

Kelly came out and gave a Ford away to some random girl. The concert started. She played some new and old stuff. The guys sitting next to us won their tickets from S4 in Oaklawn and they made their own T-shirts honoring KC. They helped me figure out which ones were the new ones and which were old (which I figured out on my own, mostly). A few more notes:

1. Kelly can sing or better 'that gurl can sang.' She has a great voice and is really good at putting on a show.

2. Smirnoff sucks (in the summer). I bet any other time it is pretty cool to watch a concert there but when it is 99 degrees it sucks. We did have seats but that didn't matter much. The beers made it better (and I don't even drink beer).

3. Gays love them some Kelly Clarkson. Lots. She is fierce after all.

4. Parking at Smirnoff sucks (anytime). I can tell. Fifteen dollars is a lot of money to pay for parking and it isn't even easy to get in our out.

5. Kelly's music rocks and she loves Texas. She is from here after all.

Live blog: Yanks sweep Rangers in series

A nail biter tonight. Yanks win 8-7, and sweep the three game series in Texas. The game had lots of drama and more Yanks fans than I ever imagined to see. I had a footlong and Dr. Pepper. My seats were awesome in section 18 but people keep moving their asses up and down the aisle. It was very frustrating.

I have to give it up to the Rangers for playing a great game. Good job.

Now I sit waiting to get on I-30.

Freaking out

My final term paper for my class is due this Thursday. I took two days off of work to write. This morning, I deleted the whole damn thing and haven't been able to recover it. Not good. No printouts exist. Start all over.

Live blog: Yanks vs. Rangers

Actually I'm in my car waiting to get on I-30. Yanks win 6-2. It was a
pretty good game. Lots of Yankees fan at Ameriquest tonight. There were
tons of them in our section which made it fun. Oh yeah, I ate two jumbo
dogs with onions. More later.

Update: Problems with the live blogging have delayed this
message, so consider it sorta live.

Now for something completely different

The Yanks are in town for a three-game series with the Rangers. I have been wearing my Yanks cap all week, and lots of people have been asking about it. I love the Yankees. The problem is they haven't been doing that well lately. They are stil 2.5 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East. Here's hoping they sweep the Rangers. I'll be there Monday and Wednesday night cheering them on in my seats by third base (what a surprise). I think I'm overcompensating for the Gay Pimp post (see below).

Shake what yo' momma gave ya

I've never been to this place in NYC (so I'm not endorsing it) but I love this dance remix which is supposedly a preview of what they play on Saturday nights. I've been listening to it when I am getting dressed for work, when I wash my hair, when I vacuum, after working out, and while I'm eating my Honey Nut Cheerios in the morning. I bet the guy in the apartment upstairs is really over it.

For the record, I'm sure
Jonny McGovern (aka The Gay Pimp) hosts a crazy Boys Gone Wild party. His video for "Soccer Practice" crack me up. Watch out for the drag queen with the lazy eye.

I love junk food (and blogs about it)

There are tons of blogs that I follow. One of my current favorites is the Junk Food Blog. I never realized the diversity of junk food. Check it out.

Things to do tomorrow

I'm off of work tomorrow and Tuesday. Here is my list of things to do Monday.

1. Write my final paper for my HR class (it's due on Thursday).

2. Laundry (extremely critical; if I don't do this I may have to start wearing sweaters).

3. Clean out the fridge.

4. Balance checkbook.

5. Clean out my car (some people recently got into my car and I realized how messy it was).

6. Watch the last few shows on my DVR.

It's always good to have a list. It helps me stay on task.

It's getting hot in here

Today is the ninth day in D/FW that temperatures have been at or above 100 degrees and there is no relief in store.

Excuse my language but it is f***ing hot. I usually don't cuss but this is ridiculous. I figured since the President threw down an expletive so should I.

The hot weather has had me thinking. Who thought it was a good idea to create air conditioning? I would love to hug that person.

The hot weather just makes me ill. I can't handle breaking out in a sweat when I walk from the office door to my car, and I hate that first five or so minutes in the car when you get hit by the pent up heat of the day and the car is trying to cool down. That is the worst. I'd also like to punch the guy that created those silver sun visor things. They don't work. Let's be honest all it does is act like foil or a leather sofa just keeping everything hot. Its probably his sick little joke. He's probably on a beach in Aruba laughing his ass off that people buy those things and it does asolutely nothing.

Speaking of foil, remember those people who used to put foil on their home windows to keep it cool? That was really a great look. The sad thing is I probably would try it on my windows in the apartment if it wasn't so late. This is the end of my random thoughts for today.

The lonely life

This cannot be good news! I didn't like the Dutch anyway.

Alright 20+ years left to find a mate. I'm going to start on that tomorrow.

Out of the ballpark

Monday is the Home Run Derby at PNC Park in Philadelphia. The annual home run competition featuring this year's MLB All Star team members trying to knock balls out of the park. It is always a great spectacle and an opportunity to see baseball players try to one up each other.

Summer television - not muy caliente

Unlike the weather, this year's summer television shows are lacking sizzle. Even my favorite from last summer has become a little lukewarm. Here are some random thoughts:

1. So You Think You Can Dance seems to have found tons of people who really can dance. So that might be the point but that makes for some fairly boring television. No movie stars. No people who suck at dancing. No interesting songs. No interesting guys (the girls seem to be the better dancers). No real excitement on my part.

2. I was looking forward to Psych on USA Network. The show has Dule Hill whom I loved on The West Wing. The show also stars James Roday. I saw billboards for it in NYC when I was there a few weeks ago. The show had some funny moments but seemed to drag on a little. The pilot was 90 minutes so maybe it will move a little faster next week when it is one hour. Here's hoping.

3. Footballer$ Wives on BBC America has started Season 4. There is tons of new drama including babies switched at birth, a rape by a team member, new footballers, and Tonya's departure (hopefully temporarily) from the lead role. This is my only saving grace right now and seems timely with all the World Cup action.

4. Everything else on TV sucks.

Let me know if you have any suggestions. Post a comment. You don't even have to register for an account.

What's that sound?

Welcome to the first edition of "What's that sound?" I hope to make this a regular feature where I share with AccidentalPlan readers what's playing on my MP3 player. I have really diverse music tastes so this should be tons of fun.

Awhile ago I saw Good Night, and Good Luck with my friend, Brian. It is an awesome movie, especially if you are news junkie and/or history buff like us. The movie takes place in the 1950s when television was just becoming a popular medium. It's a great story about daring journalists who took on Senator Joseph McCarthy, and the birth of television news. It also has great music! The soundtrack features the silky hot songs of Dianne Reeves. I usually think jazz and the standards are best performed by men, but Dianne Reeves is a great exception. I love this soundtrack and her sultry voice. Check out the movie and the soundtrack. Oh yeah and come back often for future editions of "What's that sound?"

I'll take my NEWS on the side

For your convenience and to make sure that my customers are super satisfied, I have added a news roll on the left sidebar (at the very bottom). It has news that I've read recently and want to share with you. It is my opportunity to brainwash you and make you think the way I do.

Well what you are you doing still staring at this post? Read the news, check it out. Move it!

Cruel and unusual punishment

So today I go to Starbucks and the crazy barista says, "Would you like the usual Mocha Valencia?"

I respond, "Yes, I have to enjoy it before you run out of Valencia."

She replies, "Oh yeah, we got like five more bottles of it and you are like one of the only people who like drinks it - so it should like last awhile."

Aaaarrrrggghhhh [head shaking from side to side]...
